Lifter or a thrown rod? Sign In

My moms car recently has car trouble. Everyone is 50/50 on whether its a thrown rod or a lifter. What does everyone think? Her car is a 2004 Chevy Malibu LS. 3.5L V6 engine. As she steps on the gas, the noise gets faster. Here is a video, I hope its enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OmwzKs_ocU

The audio is horrible. Filmed with a potato? Can't tell what your noise is.

This is what lifter noise would sound like:

If you had a thrown rod, a rod would have came out through the oil pan or engine block.

A spun or bad rod bearing would sound like this:

Notice the rod noise occurs twice the speed as lifter noise. The camshaft rotates half the speed of the crank.
