My moms car recently has car trouble. Everyone is 50/50 on whether its a thrown rod or a lifter. What does everyone think? Her car is a 2004 Chevy Malibu LS. 3.5L V6 engine. As she steps on the gas, the noise gets faster. Here is a video, I hope its enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OmwzKs_ocU

The audio is horrible. Filmed with a potato? Can't tell what your noise is. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

This is what lifter noise would sound like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikmJ4-RcGDw If you had a thrown rod, a rod would have came out through the oil pan or engine block. A spun or bad rod bearing would sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYmyxQ9LSTI Notice the rod noise occurs twice the speed as lifter noise. The camshaft rotates half the speed of the crank. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
