My car has begun making a humming noise - almost reminds me of an airplane. I thought maybe the pressure in my right front tire was off - which it was (WAY TOO MUCH AIR - 60 psi when it should've been around 29/30) - because it appeared the sound was coming from that area. But when I evened it out the noise didn't quit. It starts at around 40mph and I can hear it over the normal engine noise. It just sounds like my car is riding really hard when I reach a higher mph - especially on the highway. I don't hear any sounds when I'm turning and it goes away when I go slower or come to a stop. There aren't any other noises I have noticed. I didn't notice any holes in my muffler and the sound sounds like its coming from the front. Does this sound like a loose ball bearing or maybe a transmission issue?

Hi, Well first off make sure all your tires are filled to the correct limits, since gas is raising and that one change could save you move, plus it will eliminate one area for your weird noise. Is your car an automatic or stick? If its a stick do you hear anything in the gear below or above the one your using. Any other tips will be great since the more information the guys/gals in here get the easier it is to suggest a fix.

Thanks for replying. My car is an automatic. I don't really know what other information to provide. Occassionally, I here a noise that sounds like a water bottle with water moving around...like an air bubble or something. I here it when I release the brake from a stop. A 'glug' sort of noise. Sorry my descriptions are so silly! The car rides fine other than that. I've had my timing belt and water pump replaced recently since I have about 94,000 miles on it. I don't hear any noise when I'm turning. Never had a problem before. Again, there is a noise sort of like an airplane and I can hear it over the engine. The car sounds like I'm sort of running it at full rpm but it doesn't sound like it's coming from the engine. Sounds like its coming from the right front side. The wheel vibrates occassionally when I'm coming to a stop. That's all I can think of....THANKS!

I think MotorheadII has is but I'm a chicken so suggest you rush to make sure your wheels are properly tight. Coolant level is easy to leave too low with a new water pump like you said. The air in system can take a cycle or two to purge. That air can make funny noises! Don't let it overheat if possible. Hang in there - ask away if needed, Tom -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the only site I know of that has a place called "Funny Noises" and I think it's great!!!!! I'm surprised this isn't the most hit spot on this forum!
