Honda Fit Makes Noise at Start-Up Sign In

Hi,

My 2014 Honda Fit engine is making this high-pitched noise at start-up. The sound goes away after the engine has warmed up a bit. Car has about 65,000 miles - but I just had the drive belt system replaced (thinking that was the problem) and the noise is still there. Any help or advice is appreciated!

Link to a clip with the sound here:

There is a bad bearing on one of the belt driven components. It could be anything the belt drives linke alternator, PS, belt tensioner or idler pulley.

You should use a stethoscope to narrow down the noise.

Thanks! My mechanic seems to think it's a starter motor (??). Could this be right?

Also, if he just replaced the drive belt system - wouldn't that have fixed this?

As Hammer said and to me also that sounds more like a visable item the belt turns. Either take it off for just a test then no noise or the stethoscope. Also while off the bad pully of those that spin free can be heard or felt different than other good ones.
Gambling today it seem like that alternator to me? IDK for sure just seems it,

Maybe and no.

It would be very unusual for a starter to do that but I'm not there to listen where the noise is coming from.

Replacing the belt has nothing to do with bad bearings.

Thanks again. Another question: why would the bearing noise go away after a few minutes? Just getting warm?

Yes, that is not uncommon with a pulley bearing problem.

If a real bearing problem it will get worse faster or slower if you can't peg this for an accessory. Why after the work? New tensioner maybe if that was involved or left too tight if manually tensioned if weak - gone in no time,
