Clunking/grinding noise from engine/cabin Sign In

Year of vehicle: 2011
Make of vehicle BMW
Model of vehicle X1
Engine size 2.0
Mileage/Kilometers 135500

Have had a couple of mechanics look at the car, resolved other issues but not the noise from the engine. Grinding/ churning noise. From what I can tell, it's a noise that has to do with RPM, can be heard constantly even when idle, and is louder inside the cabin then outside the car. the noise speeds up as the car does. I've tried googling all sounds of sounds, and not found one like it. There's no abnormal sound when starting the car initially, and the car drives perfectly normal.
Is this a timing chain issue?

Noise are a pest web still only as good as how recorded and your device so the section is greatly guessing.

Grind/Churning? RPM oriented. So a couple "mechanics" witnessed this live and didn't have a clue?

Universal reasons would be any belt or pulley are engine RPM is the clue.

External belts must be checked high chance are rubber belts were already replaced is/was the time to check associated bearings so do you know when or how long ago?

Nobody I know would also replace external pulleys all I've seen suggested if you change belt(s) is a source for this type noise.

I spray them if just plain wet noise in front you would change a strong clue.

Tech's do this, can take time apparently they didn't in person IDK why ask specifically if you aren't doing this yourself for that, diagnosed and what to repair or replace. This stinks it's been seen in person web can't help you more than that - take it back,

Tom

When you say car speeds up I'm assuming you mean the RPM's of the engine? If you could post a sound byte of the noise, that would be very helpful

He said the mechanic repaired other things but not the noise from the engine.

Yea i saw that. The part I'm not sure about is when he said "the noise speeds up as the car does"

Im not sure if he means MPHs or RPMs as it goes through the shift points.
which would be two different areas.

But either way it would be real helpful to be able to hear it.

He hasn't been back since the original post so I guess it's not that important.

I take that back. He was logged in 3 hours ago and didn't respond.
