Hey guys, first time poster here. I have a 98 Chevy cavalier 2.2L Engine, 160km on it (Not too bad). Recently I noticed a loud THUD sound coming from the back of the car, at first I thought I had hit a small child (I could not only hear the thud but I could feel it too) but when it happened again I realized it was coming from the back right corner of my car. It seems to happen randomly, varying from 60km/h to creeping up on a red light, it is very audible from in and outside of the car. The car runs fine other than that, I haven't noticed ANY problems with it. It is also important to mention that this thud doesn't occur when I'm hitting bumps. I don't have any other car to drive and I need to commute to work so I'm wondering if I can still drive on this problem? Thanks in advance, 98cavguy

The rear upper strut mounts are well known for making noise, something like you describe. But there are many other things that also could be the cause; control arm bushings, broken spring(s), stabilizer bar and the list could go on. Some of which are not safety issues but some are; I suggest taking the vehicle in and at least have it checked. You never know; maybe one of these times, it will be a kid you’ve just ran over; after you lost control of the car, due to a known potential suspension fault. Dan. Canadian "EH"
