99 Chevy venture van making a winding noise Sign In

I have a 99 chevy venture van. Lately it makes a very loud "winding" noise that is not related to the engine itself, or at least it doesn't seem that way. it only happens when in motion and it seems to be getting louder all the time. when i decelerate, the noise winds down and stops when the car stops. This van has a v6 3.4L engine, 108,000 miles. Any info you have would be fantastic. thanks!

Hi

Without being there ,its hard to say
But ,one thing that comes to mind is the front wheel bearing/hub bearing assembly.( most likely just one of them ,but can be both sometimes).
Kind of makes like a roaring/growling type sound.

Just a thought

It does seem to get a bit louder when going around a curve or turning. I have a long distance trip scheduled for this weekend. How optimistic should I be for this to keep working? And what does something like this cost to repair approximately? And thanks for the info! I had been reading a bit and thought this might be the case, but that's just from reading online

I would have it checked by a mechanic first to verify for sure what it is and make sure the vehicle is safe to drive before "VENTURING" out on a long trip.
The hub assembly is $150.00 each + tax at Autozone
If you have it repaired at a garage, expect a marked up price for the parts.
Labor wise,I dont have access to my labor rate charts at this time but I would guess somewhere in the area of an hour to an hour and a half labor
Average shop labor rates are around $90-100 an hour.

Hope this helps

Let us know how you make out
