Car Info: 1996 Saturn SC2 1.9 L Engine 144,000 miles My car is making a sound that sounds as if it's coming from somewhere along the drivetrain or the wheel. I know it's relating to the wheel turning because it is a recurring sound that increases in frequency if I go faster and decreases if I go slower. The history of the problem is as follows - I replaced both CV shafts and the sound went away, but it came back after about 100 miles of driving. Later, after I found grease flung all over the underside of the car and all over the replacement cv shaft on the passengers side, I assumed that the CV shaft I had put in was bad on the passengers side and replaced that one again. After I put the 2nd new cv shaft in, there was no change in the sound this time. I've looked around online and the only other possibility I come across is a bad wheel bearing - which wouldn't explain all the grease on the inner boot of my old CV shaft. I've made a recording of the sound last time I drove my car. You can listen to it by clicking here. The sound is pretty apparent. Anyone have any ideas?

Nice work! Hard to say but it's not the most typical bad bearing noise but they must be check along with brakes and tires. Bad bearing usually growl. I know it's hard but the sound was more like engine noise to me? T

Good recording! Definatly a wheel bearing, if you turn one way and the noise is less, that is the side that is bad. You need a press to remove the bearing from the knuckle.
