94 Accord, at low speed sounds like distant jet flying past Sign In

Hi,
recently my 94 Honda Accord, manual transmission car is having this strange sound. The brakes are still working and no funny behavior when I brake, although I think the pads are prob. thin and needs replacing in a few more months.

However, at very low speed (near to stopping), there is sound that sounds like a distant jet flying past (roaring sound, noticeable but not very loud). I got my teenage son to stand outside to try and hear where the sound is coming from, but he couldn't tell. When I rolled down the windows, it is slightly louder than the engine sound (which is not very loud but not soft either... it's and old car afterall). Perhaps the sound is being amplified through the air vent. It is happening whether or not I was braking.

Does anyone know what is a probably cause? I've search around and can't seem to put a finger at it.

thanks.

Many disc brake pads use a "screech" sensor to indicated pads are low. I wouldn't describe that as a jet engine sound though?? It sounds more like the most annoying fingernail on chaulk board type sound and those usually go quiet while brakes are applied.

Either way it deserves a look at the pad life left as a possible cause. Pads can also fail with cracks and make noises so if you think it's brake related they need to come apart for closer inspection,

amac; Does the sound change at all when you depress the clutch pedal? If the hood is open, can you hear it coming from the engine?
