So I have two sets of tires, 4 snow tires mounted on stock rims, and 4 touring tires on custom rims. I recently put on the rims with snow tires, and immediately noticed vibrations at higher speeds. I had both front tires rebalanced. Still, the problem persisted. In order to rule out an issue with the steering / suspension components, I then put one rim with a touring tire on the front drivers side (leaving the other three snow tires in place) , and the vibration stopped. Put the snow tire back on, and the vibration returned. The tires were only sitting for 5 or 6 months, so I can’t imagine that it’s a flat spot on that tire. I also visually inspected the rim and tire, and did not notice any bulges, damage to the rim, etc. Any ideas?

I don't know where you think you are going with this. You have already diagnosed your own problem. You need a tire, assuming the rim isn't bent. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Have the 1st shop double check the balance. The next cheapest option would be to have them balanced at another shop..... I'm assuming that you've had these rims & tires on last season with no vibration problems?
