My 2003 Chevy Malibu has been making a scraping sound when braking at slow speeds for some time. The noise isn't loud and it only happens occasionally, making we wonder if I'm hearing things. (I've been told that I worry about the car too much.) Yesterday the scraping sound became loud - definitely not my imagination. It sounds like it is directly in the back of the car. The car has approximately 120,000 miles. The brake pads and rotors were replaced in 09.

You should take the vehicle to your mechanic and have them inspect the brake system. The first thing to do is a visual inspection of the brake components to see if there is anything obviously wrong.
