2002 Dakota Ticking Sound Sign In

I've got an 02 Dodge Dakota, 4.7 V-8, 58,000 miles on it.

This weekend I started hearing a ticking noise coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment when I would start it up in the morning. The tick will increase when I accelerate but then go away after a couple of minute. Could it be a sticky lifter or an exhaust leak? A couple of friends that I've talked to seem to think that it's a leak. I just want to get your guy's opinions on the matter here. Thanks

Noises are tricky by nature. By description this would be consistant with an exhaust leak (crack or fitting somewhere) as they tend to tighten up when hot.

If fluids are checked and full, decent maint history it may be just exhaust and not the classic sticky lifter which is more common in neglected vehicles or a problem in its history,

Everything is up to snuff on the maint. history for the truck. I'm pretty sure also that it is an exhaust leak also. Thanks for the input.

After further investigation...I've found that I have a sheared bolt on the passenger side exhaust manifold.

Arggh! Does it seem like it's broken off with some of the bolt left exposed in the hole in the manifold such that if manifold was removed you could get some grip on it? If broken off flush with head it's going to be a real treat to remove that pup!

This can be touchy stuff extracting bolts. You may want to seek pro help if you feel it must be done,

I reached down to feel for the bolt and it seemed that there is a little amount exposed but I don't think that it is enough to grab on to, which really sucks!!!
I'm going by my local shop tomorrow to have them take a look to get a better idea...
