Hello, Vehicle Info: 2001 Mazda Tribute V6 Engine 180km When I start my vehicle there's a constant loud clicking noise coming from the left side of my engine (looking at it from the front of the vehicle). Seems to not click as much when the vehicle is moving, and seems to click more when the RPMs increase. Here's a video of the noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nEvXEVEPpU How it happened: Driving on the highway noticed my RPM's were quite high. Shortly after my acceleration seemed to drop quite a bit. I was able to maintain about 80 km/hr, but not go any higher. Decided to pull over, and as I was pulling over I lost power steering. Turned the vehicle off. Checked all fluid levels and they were good. Tried starting it after 10 min, and it wouldn't start. Tried starting after 30 min and it started, but then the noises in the video started. The belts seem fine, and the noise seems to be coming from the upper half of the engine. Been told it could be a main bearing or rod bearing. Also been told it could be something not so serious. Any insight is much appreciated :) Cheers, Steve

? Video useless to me anyway. Sooooo, was engine still running when power steering quit working? A maybe is crank damper is way out of line and belts are not fine nor is that engine OK if so at all. No damper if that happened can wreck whole engine, T

Thanks for the reply. Yes the engine was running when the power steering went. Should have also mentioned... the power steering was working once the engine started up again.

The power steering probably went out because the engine stalled. Sounds like a rod to me. How excessive were the RPMs? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Don't know fore sure, but I seem to remember the RPMs to be quite high (in the 6000-7000 range, or close to the red). I was also going up a hill on the highway with a large load in my car.

These are the kind of people that say oh ya I had one of those and it was a POS. It just blew a rod for no reason whatsoever. They must of used cheap stuff. They can't build anything right like they used to in the old days...bla bla blaa Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
