2000 jimmy whining noise	Sign In

my2000 4x4 gmc jimmy has developed a whining noise heard from in the truck coming from under the drivers seat
front hubs have been replaced all wheel bearings seem tight rear axle bearing and seal was replaced as well
sound is heard when slowing down from 40 mph down to stopping and starting in forward motion to 40-then i don't hear it any longer---help please!!!!!!!!! was told maybe a front u joint is worn??

There's a lot of maybees with noises like this so all should be checked out. Bearings and U-joints usually are better or worse under loads. U-joints sometimes leave rusty evidence before they are loose to see or shaft needs to be removed to verify.

Even items already replaced could be bad. I'd see if the noise can be duplicated with whole truck hoisted. There's a wide range of noises bearings and U-joints can make but "whining" wouldn't be my first on the list.

Does braking change the noise and are they known good? You said off the forums you had aggressive tires on this. They should be rotated a lot and checked for any strange wear patterns as well,

2000 jimmy whining noise yes the brakes were checked recently-all ok.
and as for under load-no difference heard- the truck drives normal-turns normal accelerates normal and stops normal-but tires as you say could have an adnormal wear pattern huh?

2000 jimmy------tom--- yet i can drive by someone and they don't hear the whine on the outside of truck-to make the puzzle even more wierd!
but i can hear it inside-i just don't want anything to drop off or seize up on the truck before i can really get the time to have it all checked out>

Noises are frequently best left to the pros as they usually have heard them before and can pin it down more quickly.

YOU should want to know if it's a safety issue or would cost tons more by waiting to find it. Noises also travel in odd ways so what you think is left or right can be opposite. Techs are on to that - good ones anyway,
