Hey guys, I have a 1992 Ford Taurus GL automatic. It is a very nice car for its age except that when I accelerate from a stopped position and let off the gas suddenly, the car makes a clunking noise. I thought it might be the CV joints, but they are not making the clicking noise when turning and they look reasonably clean. The car also makes the noise when I shift really fast. Thanks for your help.

What you may have is a broken motor mount. Open the hood and observe the engine while power braking in drive and reverse. If it jumps severely, then you have a broken mount.

Is it a expensive repair? And I checked the engine, you were right.

That just depends on what needs to be replaced. There are 4 mounts there all together. You need to have them inspected to determine what needs to be changed

My money would be on the RF mount (by engine compartment) just cuz those are the worst to do and always seem to be the ones that break 1st.....Crazy
