1992 Camry rear left suspension noise Sign In

Hi, I have a 1992 Toyota camry and I am experiencing a noise problem from the rear left wheel. I know I have a bad bushing but I am not sure how parts are actually called ??? I have taken a picture and I am requesting our help to make sure I will order the right bushings from the net since toyota wants to replace all the parts instead of simply the bushings. I went to a local garage in Quebec, Canada and he also told me that he is not able to get only the bushings. I have found a couple of sites on the net to order only the bushings but I want to be sure of the names.

The bushing that I have singled out on the picture, can be forced at least 1/8" from side to side and I am positive the noise coming from this bar.
Also can you confim if I have the right terminology for naming the parts ?
Your help would be appreciated.

My intention so far would be to replace only the trailing arms bushings, (would need 4 total I guess, since there is 2 bars & 1 in each end). But I am not sure if those 2 bars are called the trailing arms. So I need your help.

Thanks

I was sure hoping someone replied to your question. I was told they were called stabilizer bar bushings and you will need the bolt kit as well. I was told it was dealer item only and it runs about 180.00 US. Ouch... I have the same problem, it is more annoying than safety but I think, not sure, but think that is what they are called. Did you get any info yet? Please let me know if you have the name... I need to fix mine as well.

Found this out there. It's more than meets the eye so must be as stated below. It's name is "rear control arm" meaning the adjustable one toward rear of vehicle not just rear vs a front of vehicle part,

T
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rear Control Arm Complete Assembly (OEM Toyota) rearward adjustable arm, 6/ 1991 to 8/1993, SXV10, VCV10 State with or without ABS $132.80 each.
*Please Note: No bushings for the rearward adjustable rear control arms are available.
The outer ends of this arm are of a ball and socket type design
(not a bushing) and are not serviceable.
You must replace the whole arm (complete assembly) as listed for sale above.
Re: 1992 Camry rear left suspension noise Sign In
Wink Hey thank you so very much.
I have heard twenty different names for these, trailing bars, sway bars, control arms... etc... It seems that there is alot of play once that bushing wears and that arm just bounces up and down making a annoying noise. At least it is all one piece and can't come apart that is nice to know for safety reasons but need to have it replaced. I love my car, and it has 234,000 miles on it and doens't leak a drop of oil, just started to rust this year and runs beautifully. I am blessed with this car just need two more years to finish school and all is well. Thanks for your help!!!!
Happy easter
It's not just annoying - if that broke clean off it would very likely cause wild loss of control of the car!
It's a must fix item asap,
Re: 1992 Camry rear left suspension noise Sign In
These aren't the adjustable ones, I just have the bolt type. it is the rear of the two control arms. Are we talking about the same thing still for the 132.80? If I have to replac both control arms on the left rear will I have to remove the exhaust and the gas tank? Is that true? I am a female and am learning alot about this vehicle, I am trying to do some of this myself.
Thanks Tom
Re: 1992 Camry rear left suspension noise Sign In
This was a picture of a 92 from much earlier post in this thread. I did find that what looks like just a replacable rubber bushing is a ball socket type thing that so far is unavailable alone so comes as the whole unit and truth is $132 bucks isn't the world for this. It will take labor and the cost of an alignment after it's replaced!
Here's the pic - I didn't write on it but it shows what yours should look like.......
That pointer the says "2 Trailing Arms ???" shows the threads and a lock nut. This is how you would adjust the "tow" for alignment. The two larger bolts shown at the bottom of the strud should have hidden oblong holes in one such that "camber" can be adjusted as well during an alignment. Anytime you remove those things for whatever you are up to a new aligment is in order as you really can't tell by eye if it's right on the mark or not.
All that said - this is NOT an easy do it yourself job. By the looks of that you would need air tools to take things apart.
BTW - being female is not a stopper for working on things and doing it right. This time I think the expense of tools you probably don't own will take away any chance of saving money by doing this yourself and you may never need those tools again,
Re: 1992 Camry rear left suspension noise Sign In
Hi tom,
I do have some air tools which will help out immensely. It is that bolt... for sure, left side and it is the left rear,rear control arm. I should replace both, but the rear most control arm bushing is the worst. I know it looks like I may have to remove fuel tank to do the left rear front control arm which is something I really don't want to do. It has a center bolt which maybe seized and if it isn't then I don't have to remove fuel tank, but it doesn't look good. Anyways, it is going to be a hairy job any which way I look at it. I have to remove exhaust... ugh!!!! I sincerely appreciate your input on this matter... it is pretty interesting to learn about imports, I worked for ford for about 8 years, so i know nothing about imports... all new to me. I am just scared to death that it will be alot more than what I anticipate.!!!!! Thx again for your help/
Re: 1992 Camry rear left suspension noise Sign In
Spray your suspect rusty parts now with PB - a great penetrating oil that really works. If bolts break off blind it will be a nightmare and you might need air hammer and oxy/acet heat to get thru this. I like your spunk - you go girl but know it could be a real pill,
