Hi. I have an '06 Ford Escape. It's a 6.0L 4WD. Lately I've been hearing a rhythmic grinding noise when accelerating while the engine is still not completely warmed up. It's coming from the left front of the vehicle. I'm not really good with cars but I make a living troubleshooting mechanical and electronic problems. I'd initially thought it could be a bearing issue, but with it stopping when warmed up, that doesn't hold water. I checked the transmission fluid for metal flakes, but it's fine also. I've read it could be a U-joint issue but I'd like another opinion on this before i have it looked at.

Thanks.

It still could be a bearing. It could also be rust on the rotor or the backing plate contacting the rotor slightly.

Thanks! I took a look and the drivers front rotor is rusted on the edges.
