I have an '02 Saturn SL. A few months ago I hit a curb hard with the front right tire evading a head-on. Punctured the tire, had that replaced and the car aligned.

Fast forward to about three weeks ago, I start hearing a low pitched humming from the front right wheel around 35mph. Rotated tires front to back on both sides, no effect. Tire pressure is in spec. Jacked up the front and checked for play in both wheels, felt fine. Noise has gotten a bit worse and starts at lower speeds now. There is also an intermittent, higher pitched and much louder hum from the same spot that is sometimes there at 50+mph.

I have driven the car for 3 weeks (about 900 miles) like this, which is dumb, but I've been working 70+ hour weeks and don't have much choice. I check for play in the wheels every day, and would take it in if I noticed any, but have not.

I finally have a day off tomorrow, so I pulled the steering knuckle off tonight and was going to get the wheel bearing replaced. But the more I think about it, I'm not so sure that's the problem. Mainly because of no play, and also it doesn't go away when I turn left or right. Ideas?

Bearing IS likely and by the time it has "play" it's really trashed. It can have no play and be bad. A good bearing is silent,
