MIDAS front brake pad rip-off??

So, today I went to Midas and I got the front brake pads replaced. I feel like it was a little expensive just for pads, but I don't really know any better.. Car is a 2005 Sunfire. I got a set of premium pads installed (whatever that means), and the bill came to $244. ($100 for both pads, $105 in labour, and then tax and $12 for supplies/waste/clean??) Can anyone confirm if this is too much?? By the way, I live in Canada

Yes, No, Maybe + IDK. Did you have an estimate or price ahead of work? Do you have an itemized bill as to just what was done? If you were surprised at that cost why didn't you bring it up then and there and have it explained to you? T

All you have to do is drive into a Midas shop to know you are going to be ripped off. They charge outrageous prices at all of their shops. Most independent shops will replace the pads and resurface the rotors for under $200. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I don't like franchise facilities any more then anyone else; but up here in Canada that is an average price for a front brake pad change. My pricing on a GM/AC Delco premium brake pad set part # 17D506M retails for $110.11. Labour rate is $90.00 per hour and flat rate pays 1 hr.. Add a hardware kit Delco # 18K276X for $8.01 and $4.00 for brake fluid I'm at $212.12 plus tax. Like I said that's up here and I know that in the States retail pricing is less. Dan. Canadian "EH"

I don't think $244 is a bad price if that included resurfacing the rotors. I got $299.11 total for labor (2.1hrs x $90/hr) and parts (Delco pads). Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

They didn't mention anything about resurface. That's a real expensive pad slap.

If it was a pad slap, I would agree. The only nice thing about chain stores and dealers is they are mostly strewn throughout the country, so if you have a problem with the work they did, you can swing into any store. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I wouldn't put it in the rip off category. A rip off would be charging and not doing the work or using used parts It is up North & I know things are more expensive up there......Here for a good set of ceramics, you are looking at $80 to $90 and 1 hr labor..... (Here being CA) Some shops I was at the 1hr included turning rotors and other places had it as an addition charge.... As long as they were up front with the estimate I think they are good.....Quoting $100 & then bumping the bill to $200 with no authorization would be a rip The OP could always pick up the phone & price shop....
