Fluid leaking from brake pedal 09 civic Sign In

09 Honda civic hybrid
Been leaking this stuff for ages onto my carpet below the brake pedal. Brake fluid level never changes over the time it's been leaking.

Well I confirmed pumping the brakes causes it to leak more so I think it's definitely brake fluid. Also with pumping, pressure doesn't seem to build up...
I guess I can't read the min max at all on the reservoir because it's so recessed maybe the level has dropped...

I deleted your picture because it was way too large. Please reduce the size if you re-post.

Looks like the master cylinder is leaking.

Any tips on diagnosing this further? I can't get underneath the car until later this week but not sure that'll really be a great place to start anyway.

The only other liquid that can leak from under the dash is coolant and that's not the right place to be seeing that. It definitely looks like brake fluid. It should be pretty obvious that the brake fluid level is dropping.

Re: Fluid leaking from brake pedal 09 civic Sign In

Thanks!
the reservoir with min max gauge is actually pretty far recessed back from where the fill cap is on this 09 civic. Even with a small flashlight squeezed next to the reservoir it's hard to tell where the level is. I topped it off, anyhoo. Given the master cylinder and reservoir is that jam packed under the dash I might not have the skillset to replace it like I cold with the older 98....

Take the cap off and shine the light inside the reservoir and then look at it from the side. the light will illuminate the inside.

You're going to have to change the vacuum brake booster when you go to replace the master cylinder.
