Brakes still squeak after multiple trips to dealer Sign In

I have a 2009 Honda Accord 2.4L with about 40,000 km / 25, 000 miles on it. The brakes were serviced 8 months ago (rear pads also replaced) at the Honda dealership and for the last 2 months there has been a squeaking sound when the pedal is half depressed. I went back to the dealer and had a 4 wheel brake service. The rear rotors were also replaced as they were excessively worn out and had already been machined once. After this, the squeaking sound remained (though not nearly as bad as it was before). I took it back in, and was told the front rotors need replacing. They replaced the front rotors and sanded the brake pads. This seemed to have solved the problem that day, but the next day, I noticed a hint of the squeaking again.

What gives? This car only has 40,000 km on it, all rotors and rear pads have been replaced and still the problem remains.

That's a lot of brake work for 40,000 km. Some brands of pads just stink and no clue if they did the job properly. What's with turning rotors twice already? That doesn't jive.

That would shut brakes up but only so long then you have thinner rotors that can't take that much off before they are under spec.

How is it they were "excessively" worn out? If all this car does is stop and go driving or driven hard habits may need to change?

It took 6 months to make noise? IDK - did the car sit for a good while and rust up the rotors too much or something?

Something isn't adding up,

Well I just got the car a month ago from my parents... I don't know exactly when the noise started. They didn't drive much but I would imagine it was at least once or twice a week. We don't brake hard. But now that it has brand new rotors on all 4 wheels, I don't understand why there would still be a hint of squeak... I'm guessing they're using Honda OEM parts? Maybe that's the issue? I don't know.

Don't guess on what parts are used even at a dealer. If most of this driving apparently from parents was "left" footing and dragging brakes that is hard on them. Sometimes you see that by wear on the brake pedal! New pads can crack, work fine but noisy or wrong brand for the car.

The trouble now is new rotors really don't come with much extra metal anymore for all this machine work. That and some if not washed the metal filings left can impregnate the new pads and you are cooked!

Google away at the different prices of just pads and rotors for this car. Ones are out there that clearly state no noise and no brake dust which is annoying on some but cost tons more for the high end crap that doesn't really last any longer.

Tough call if this is annoying enough they may need to be redone and specify pads known not to be noisy.

Yes you can rough them up as you said and they'll shut up for a short while which is not a real fix.

There are also tricks using a goo on backs of pads that some pads come with to reduce noise that I don't find works too well as they are going to be noisy or not IMO.

I think you may be down to doing them again or put up with the noise at this point?

I don't even know any more. All new rotors, they tell me the pads are fine... the sound wasn't there right after I left the dealership but came back the next day. It's not super annoying - it only makes noises at speeds of more than 50kmh, and only when the pedal is half depressed... when I break lighter or heavier, it's fine. At this point I may just put up with it. I've already sunk $300 into this and got nothing out of it.

It's pad material most responsible for noise - some use tricks some use different friction material. It's just bad luck that this set doesn't stay quiet. That could change as they wear some more?

Here are some if pic shows that brakes have different specific qualities...........

They probably just gave a visual inspection and sprayed some brake cleaner on rotors to make them quiet for a day or less with your efforts nobody interested in redoing it at this point for you.

They must stop as they should noise or not and if so carry with them. Next round ask for specific products known to be quiet and insist that they stay that way. Out of this game for ages now but fought the battle of noise a few times and usually just tossed pads for different ones if early on shouldn't need to mess with rotors.

Good luck. If it's safe be happy and don't let it happen again,
