!!!HELP!!! Car vibrating loud - stops when brakes are applied Sign In

Hello! I own a 2000 Silverado 1500 2wd. I just got done putting wheel spacers (2inch) on and doing a rust treatment on the bottom… I drove it back to college and out of the blue my truck starts making a ticking sound around (I think) my front left tire. I pulled off and jacked up my truck because I thought it was that my spacer was having issues that I previously installed but they were perfectly secured. I continued to drive on to college and the vibration noise turned into a loud fast paced thud noise. I drove slow but it was still there. I noticed though that the second I began to apply my brake at a red light the noise completely stopped. The noise resumed after I began to accelerate again. So what’s the issue? It seems to stop when I apply my brake?

Thank you!!!

2 inch wheel spacers? Are you serious.

I can't begin to tell you how bad an idea that is. You will find out soon what all that additional stress will do to your suspension.

What you are describing sounds like the caliper is hitting something on the wheel. When you apply the brakes the caliper would move just enough to clear whatever is hitting, probably a wheel weight or a weld bead.

! Did you change wheels and tires out of truck's specs also?

Take at least fronts back off LOOK for what is destroyed.

I plain can't say if wheel well and even OE tires sizes would clear the fender metal.

This is a terrible idea stresses on front hub bearings now will ruin them rear might take it I can't know.

We see this out there (I do) all screwed up trucks look cool but not my thing ever probably those lifted also pay for the ongoing problems and inability to really align it is hard enough anyway just isn't going to adjust to compensate.

It's old said with rust too IDK what you did to try to remove it - make sure frame is still good I think even this uses torsion bars to lower control arms for front springs not coils if rusty it would adjust anymore without wild work or instantly make it unable to drive.

1st - is take a plain look while you remove those was done OE OMG in the 60s to many Pontiacs at least they designed it for those tricks,
