retainer clips for center cap of rim?????? Sign In

Ok so I have a 94 dodge dakota. I've been Trying to get it road worthy. I recently bought a nice set of 6 lug 15" steel rims for it with a really nice chrome finish. So I went and picked up the rims from a local auto repair place and they gave me four rims and the lug nut cover's with the ram logo on them. So I get the wheels on and then try to put the lug nut caps on, and find that there is no way to mount the caps onto the rims. most of the rims I've dealt with have had a retaining clip of some type welded right on to the rim itself to hold the Cap on, however this set of rims did not, nor could I find evidence of them ever having one. So I assumed that I could easily find the correct retaining clips I needed online or at a local auto dealer. But when I asked for them I was accompanied by blank stares. Does anyone know where to find these clips and how they mount on. I'm assuming they must clip onto the lug nuts somehow, and then onto the caps to keep them held in place. Or am I crazy, and perhaps have caps to a different set of rims? I know that it's just a cosmetic issue, but Id like to cover up the ugly lug nuts.

Congrats for being the first post in this new section!

Not a body worker but have a clue what you are up to. I suggest you find a local salvage yard for all those parts to retain wheel parts. Can't speak for everywhere but here all junked vehicles have wheels removed and any trim parts to wheels tossed inside it or in trunk. Some if special will be sorted out and inventoried.

Of course depending on why the vehicle found it's home at a junkyard will depend on if they have a full set or not.

You might be able to get all this new but I tend to doubt it. Try and if possible get part #s or any info you can from a dealer even for use for used parts of the sort.

Locally for me the Salvage yards are linked and larger more popular items are inventoried and cooperating yards know of each other's inventory. They don't usually do the small stuff so you may need to find it yourself from a pick your own type yard.

Good luck with the hunt - you'll find what you need. Join a truck club or whatever it takes. Ebay, Craigslist too,

tom; Man, I'm trying to remember, but I think the 'caps' go on first, then the lug nuts.
