Hi, I have a 2003 toyota tacoma 4x4. I can't seem to get the outter tie rod off of the steeering knuckle. I have tried hitting the steering knuckle with a hammer like i have seen in some DIY videos, no luck. I put a pitman puller on it, and it still wont budge.....actually started bending the puller. Am i missing something? I followed all the directions in the service manual, but can't get the damn thing off. Please help! Thanks!

There does seem to be a special puller for those if my search was accurate. Looks like this........ Claim was damage free removal?? I am surprise if you had a good grab with a pitman arm puller that it didn't work and may need this tool? T

I can see of they have one of those at the auto parts store. any other options? I'm going to end up replacing the outter tie ends too, so i'm open to anything even if it damages the outter rod ends. thanks

hit the knuckle where the tie rod goes in with a big hammer.. the vibration will knock it out of the socket.. if your replacing it you can hit it with a hammer on the threads. dosent work you just need a bigger hammer lol You can also try a small pickle fork.. usally can aquire them through autoparts loan a tool program they may even have the tool mentioned by tom.
