2002 silverado gas tank fuel lines removal

2002 silverado gas tank fuel lines removal Sign In

Finally got the tank down. The last thing I'm having trouble w/ is the three fuel lines. Anyone got any info on how to disconnect these plastic-ish connnectors??

To answer your question more indepth.

There is 3 line you need to remove. The center one (if there is a line, some don't have it) is an evap line & no tool is required. If you look close you'll see 2 ends that just squeeze together & you pull it off.

The 2 that are giving you (and a lot of techs) trouble are the fuel supply & return lines. Most just require a spring lock tool and there are a few designs, these are the more common ones.









The top one works the best.

On some Chevy fuel pump assemblies, the collar is too close to the fuel line and the tool won't fit in to release the "4 wire fingers" that lock it in to place.

What I do is 1st spray the connection down with carb clean, twist the lines so they are loose, free moving & clean. Then just grab the fuel line & pull up(they break very easily). This snaps it clean but does leave the end in the fuel line, still locked into place but now the tool will fit in there easily. Just find a screw that will thread into the broken end and put a pair of vise grips on the end of the bolt so you can pull with it. Now just slide the tool into the connecter, release the springs and pull the broken end out. It works good and todate I haven't found a tool that will fit in there with out grinding. If someone else has a method that works good with out breaking the lines I'm sure they'll jump in..

With repair questions I don't normally respond in pm for a few reasons but one I feel bad you've been waiting all day but I work a lot. Everyone here is at the same level and we all pretty much can "see" where the other is going. So if I'm not around someone else will jump in and answer the question & visa versa...
