Oil Changes, low mileage vehicle

Hi All, I have a 2002 Ford Ranger 3.0L 2WD that I put an average of 2-3000 miles a year. It's been a year year since I did an oil & filer change. I installed a Motorcraft 10,000 mile filer and 10,000 mile full synthetic oil. It has not used any oil and does not need to be topped off. Most trips are 5-40 miles long rural area. My question is, using these high quality products and putting such low miles on, do I really need to do another change? It is driven once a week, or little more.

I wouldn't let it go longer than a year. I'm basically in the same boat as you with low mileage and synthetic oil. Every time the engine is started cold it deposits moisture into the oil. Long trip will help burn it off but over time the oil get contaminated with moisture and various metals so if you plan on keeping the car for a while keep changing the oil yearly at minimum. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
