Swapped transmission not engaging

I have a 1990 xjs 3.6. Zf4hp22 transmission. The old transmission was slipping. So I’ve swapped another one into it. I’ve got the dipstick reading a good level of fluid. I’ve changed the filter. The transmission is not engaging when selecting drive reverse etc. Dry fill for this transmission is stated to be 9 litres. After doing that much the gearbox leaked fluid from the rear. I believer that to be an overflow of some kind. Any help or suggestions would be incredibly appreciated. It was a big horrible job swapping the tranny and now it’s not egegaing :(

Yes it is showing over full 🤦♂️ What are my options? I still have the old transmission that has a good pump.

ok, showing overfull, probably damage the pump during install. when you hang the trans, make sure it's up against the engine, do not draw it in with the bolts. Pumps should be the same, if you unbolt the bellhousing the bell will come off and the pump/stator housing will come off(I haven't built one of these in years, maybe 20 years). These will be a gasket that may have to be replaced, also make sure the input drum stays in as it may come up when you pull the stator out.
