I dug myself a big hole in getting a used 05 Trailblazer.Upon fixing the major problem, the mechanic says it sounds like the engine is on its last leg. It won't do over 35 right now- a clogged cat is part of the problem.
Being it shifts to second gear and cruise on flat road at a decent rpm, I press the pedal and it revs up to 4K rpm with no pickup. The mechanic says it is because all the energy goes to fight the clogged exhaust.

-SO-

it shifts gear 1 to 2 fine(i don't hear any funny noises. Is there any way i can confirm the trans is fine? I don't want to replace the motor only to find a bad trans.Just cut off the cat off and drive it? I say this because with my engine problem, I don't know if it will put out enough power to get to 40 or 50.

btw, no error codes come up.
TIA.

That does not sound like the symptoms of a plugged Cat at all. You need to get a second opinion on that.

Hello,
Just to let you know, loosing 3rd gear is a very common problem with this transmission, it will normally shift 1st to 2nd and neutralize when it goes to 3rd. Gary
