My 1991 mits montero 5speed revs up to 4000 rpms in first gear from stop and has a very slow grab. Eventually the truck starts moving but has a very slow grab into 2nd and the rest. Very slow grab into reverse. Not sure if this is a clutch issue or general transmission problem?

If that is happening with the clutch all the way released, there isn't much question the clutch is slipping dramatically. Does it slip badly in higher gears? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It slips in all the gears. Sounds like a new clutch is needed. I’m the original owner with 105k miles on it. Looks like too big of job for me to do in the driveway. I’m not sure what a accurate quote will be to fix this problem?

Quote ">My 1991 mits montero 5speed revs up to 4000 rpms in first gear from stop and has a very slow grab.<" That's really frying anything left of that clutch so hurry to get this done! Plan on it quitting anytime now most that bad don't get thru a day or my experience by the time a person shows me that it was seriously too late. You can price parts for an original owner you would/should know it's original or how long before an overhaul. Price out whole new flywheel, all parts to hydraulic clutch (kit maybe) pressure plate, throw-out bearing, disc, This may all come in one kit if this truck is still good and you need it would still be pricey but so is quitting now IMO the shock of maybe over $2,000US or more is possible? It's a 1991 who knows what curves doing it may show up is why, T
