2006 3.8 lucerne 142,000 miles
transmission up to temp, speeds above 50 mph, rpm greatee than 1600 or so,. the converter will unlock with the very slightest of throttle input,.so much so that heading into the wind it will oscillate on/off. ( on meaning locked) It has no codes. I disconnected the maf to default to high pressure,. which improved the shift feel, but it still will do this random on/off. Very high speed i.e over 90 mph makes no difference. I have read so many possibilities, tcc valve leaking, epc screen plugged, bad ecm, bad pwm etc etc,.. i watched your video on youtube gary regarding bore plug o ring too. At slower speed (below 50 )the converter stays locked and it will pull great up to speed without unlocking.
its a commuter car,. its winter here,. can i disable lockup temprorarily to save the converter?

High hopes "Gary" here will come by.
> Just for taking up space here it's cold (about zero F. nights) doing it's thing. Vehicles hate that "{computer cars}" all the worse IMO stupid is just that.
You have a lot of miles/Kms + it's cold expect strange things for a moment or while let things warm up.

This is hard on cars or hydraulic things a transmission is just that COLD matters but should really take/tolerate that is why you are here. Trying like you please get metric and SAE measures posted properly can help it's important,
Tom

Sure seems like you are having your share of "Winter things" going wrong or normal.

Off the automobile topic a sump pump in home you need to re-think it's routing maybe put a hole in PVC line so it drains BACK when off to sump pump.

Other with those is where it discharges will be a iceburg of ice with no place to go - that stuff you need to do when NOT so cold out impossible for now.

Look when it melts back if end outside is under water it's frozen solid when you need it.

Back to cars and snags: With a watch time 1-2 minutes. That's nothing frequently takes that long or lots longer to even see if any frost in cars/vehicles.

ARE YOU USED TO HARSH WINTERS AT ALL? If new to it some stuff get used to.

Use windshield washers just a spit all year round just because it's only an alcohol the tips freeze as that evaporates. Most don't know that!

Oils, liquids of machines, vehicles and where stored if not heated just waiting are not the same volume! Notice engine's things give you a range is quite a bit actually.

Not funny - buy gasoline when cold watch out it will expand when just sitting in a can or machine and barf it out when warm.

The viscosity of oils even brake fluid (is NOT OIL!) still is thicker feels funky when real cold.

You really may be normal for most of this stuff now put on your list to fix the exit pipe of your sump pump that's a disaster if you need one at all think it out the water has to go somewhere ALL weather use a dry well or look up what those are, ARE an answer to assorted situations or see at home centers PVC pipe with all holes in it give it more choices to get out. :-)

Good luck,

Tom

 Thanks Tom,.
I do projects up in the NWT and canada's far norrh in the winters,. so i do have some experience,..
It is the weather that has caused my troubles,.
sump line runs 300 ft has 30" rise out of the house and into a 4" drainage tile,.tille has a 8" fall over the 300'
The exit is 2ft above the bottom of the ditch that runs to the municipal ditch 1/4mile away,. ditch runs fast and carries water fine,.with a 12-14" snow base, and ground frozen we got a warm spell with 16 hrs of hard rain,. followed by a flash feeze and 28 hrs of snow,.
water filled ditch and the tile, then froze solid,. So a temp line out the window,. and now we have 40 mph winds , so fighting drifts now,. had to yse a bucket to throw snow away from front door to get out to get to snow shovel,. So its unusual but we are dealing with it day by day,.
the sump line had a small hole in the pipe coming off the submerged pump to drain back the rise coming out of the house. Winter this year has been a challenge with 30 deg temp swings in 24 hrs Frown

Weather extremes ARE pertinent to auto operation! This isn't "Margaritaville" HT where I am either and never was.

Extremes are far worse in no time right here than FL anywhere.

Cars etc are machines with temp swings anywhere "cold" for an engine is still above 100F is cold for "oil" hydraulic things a trans is just that.

NWT (I haven't been to) but OMG has to expect all of it and what to do about it.

Read owner's manuals. Auto transmissions that "lock up" and are annoying should have the option to shut that off when it's not appropriate and keeps locking and unlocking up SHUT THAT OFF for those times.

Whether a switch or choice for range of gears allowed is different to do just that in everything I've ever owned or had to drive never mind knowing how to fix it rather how and what to expect as designed as "normal" I'm pretty sure this is for what is extreme,

Tom
