How do you remove a cv front drive axle from a 1995 Buick Skylark.

I'm looking at a service manual and I'm having some difficulty understanding what they want me to do. I've removed the axle nut (the axle moves in and out of the hub bearing - but can't move back far enough to remove), loosened the lower ball joint and disconnected the stabilizer link (as instructed in manual). But I'm no closer to removing it. Will someone please explain this following step

10. Separate joint by using a pry bar between the suspension support and lower control arm.

Just to get the nomenclature right. The suspension support is the structure that the control arm (which can flex up and down and has the mounting points for the stabilizer bar, lower ball joint) attaches to.

Separate what joint? Do they want me to disconnect the control arm from the suspension support? (Lower? Is there and upper?)

Thank you.

Just go to Youtube and search "Axle replacement 95 Skylark" and you will get a bunch of instructional videos.

One thing I learned is the strut bolts don't turn, they're splined. I had to pound them out with a 4# hammer. Once that is disconnected it's a piece of cake... kinda.

And when I used a fork to remove the ball joint I destroyed it. NAPA lends a remover tool that just pops them right out

The pounding with a hammer to get the bolts out is normal, just don't damage the threads.

Yes, the rubber boots usually get damaged. As for those tools, sometimes they help and sometimes they don't. Some cars can be separated at other points.

The hardest part is usually getting it to release from the transmission. A good long prypar is usually what you need there.
