I'm a very novice mechanic and I was attempting to replace my alternator, my rather got stuck by the tension pulley. Anyone have clues how to get it off? I've got 4.2 L 2003 Ford F-150. I was pulling back on the tension pulley and the bar got lodged on a piece connecting the fan.

Yes, have it towed to a real mechanic and totally apologize to him for attempting it yourself. When he stops laughing, he'll probably charge you a little more than if you had brought it to him in the first place. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Most the time you can grab the belt with it around the pulleys, so that it pulls on the tensioner enough to get the ratchet out. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
