Hello!

I'm a first time mechanic starting off on working on cars, looking for general tools to buy and I'm curious to know of what is the best affordable battery testers out there from experienced mechanics that accurately reads battery voltage, jump start vehicles effectively and can provide power continuesly when battery is disconnected, are portable, and have good load and cold cranking tests that are accurate (while not too slow if possible) as well as alternator testing features.

I'm interested in buying one as a first time mechanic and there are a lot in the market with large gap values with different quality builds that isn't obvious for beginners and I don't know which one would provide the best bang for the buck, that's durable over time as well as reliable!

First step is to work in or around the trade you should see things in use then choose what you like and on to school if you really want this trade.

One tool that does all that? I don't think I have ever seen a single tool that provides all those functions in one tool.

If all you wanted is testing batteries you can tell a lot with just a DVOM or analog one. Knowing where to check for what while you do this or that would be another book by me :-) Tom
