BMW 535 rummbling noise !!!!!

Can anyone help me i've just bought a bmw 535 i se 1991 model, it makes a horrible sound from the middle of the car, sounds like the prop shaft is hitting the tunnel anybody got any idea what could be causing this ?? Cheers Stu.

I’m not sure whether this car has one or not (not all that familiar with square cars) but a lot of them used a two piece shafts utilizing a hanger bearing somewhere along its length. If so your noise maybe the hanger bearing? Dan. Canadian "EH"

Ok thanks i'll have a look over the weekend, and then price one up probably stupridly priced knowing BMW lol

If it is not the carrier bearing DanD described make sure you check the rear axle bearings. These cars are notorious for them and the rumble tends to resonate throughout the rear and mid sections of the car. Steve
