Checking a TC is free - so go for it.

With a reman engine (trust me is was nothing like new) it (chain) should be new.

Key is new or fixed junk engine. Doubt much is new but the paint! Sad but true. Remans generally last about 50k and blow up. That totally depends on who did it but it tisn't new. If you really could find true new crated engine for an 89 you are doing better than I can,

okay, call me stupid. got the knock sensor for the truck book says it is on the lower side of the motor, passenger side, in front of the starter. well i cant find anything there, am i blind or what.

ok, got the knock sensor, book says it is located on the lower side of the motor in front of the starter. well i must be blind because i cant see anything that looks like it in front of the starter, could it be anywhere else.

That's usually the area it's at on those.

There isn't any loose connecters or single wires just hanging there in that area is there?

ok, fond out for some reason my truck knock sensor was missing. got one put it on, the wire had been cut somehow, traced the wire from the spark controll down { dark blue} to knock sensor and conected it. now not flashing anymore codes yet, but still has slight miss.

Unplug the vacuum line to the EGR valve and drive it.

was told on here to diconect the hose to the EGR and try driving it. Thank you. it now runs like a brand new truck.thank all of you for your help.

You haven't really solved your problem. You have only isolated it. Now you have to find out what's causing it so you can resolve it and get the EGR working again.
Could be the EGR valve, Could be the EGR solenoid

Glad to hear you found the problem.

But that was just step to find the problem. Either the valve has the wrong orifice washer or weak spring but shouldn't be left disconnected.

Probably the easiest fix would be to put a vacuum delay valve inline in the vacuum line. This way you'll have a working EGR system...
