86 Bronco II Rough Idle

Hi guys, I'm new to the site and engine mechanics as well. This is my first car (I'm 16) and it needs a little work haha. Um, okay. My Bronco has a very rough idle. It'll idle good at about 900-1100 RPM's and then it'll drop down to about 400-500 and just about die. Right as I think it's dead it jumps up to 15-1600 and back down to 1000. And keep repeating the cycle. This problem is accompanied by stalling and/or dying at stop signs, lights, and stalling when getting up to high enough RPM's like when I go to pass someone. If it helps at all it IS an Eddie Bauer Edition meaning it has an Automatic Transmission, and a lot of features you find in cars today. Thanks in advance for any help I receive, Cullen

How about a little more information here.......... Full size or Bronco II? engine size? Fuel injected? How many miles? What has been tried, if anything? Any check engine light coming on? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It's a Bronco II, The engine is a V6 2.9 Liter EFI, Has just about 175,000 miles, All I've really been able to try because of expenses and my level of knowledge is just some Lucas Oil Fuel Injector Cleaner. And no, there is no Check Engine light. Thank you for a reply so quickly, by the way.

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.
