Idle speed to high

Hey guys, it's me again.... I have this 1995 Nissan SE truck. It has about 116,000 miles. Engine size is V6 3000. It's labled as a VG30E. It hasn't been generally used for about seven years and I'm replaceing things on it and slowly but surely getting it into dependable running condition. Of corse I replaced the spark plugs, temp sensor, oil anf filter..things like that. But I've noticed it's iddleing to fast...Between 1500 and 2200 RPM's. My manual gives an idle speed of around 900rpm's. Here's my problem...What do I do?..It's not a carboratered engine so I was told it doesn't have a screw to idle it down. I was told it has an "idle control valve". In lamen terms... Can I check this and replace it myself. and where do I locate this little turd?......As always...Thanks for the help. This is a great forum and it's helped me tremendously..

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
