2003 Ford F150 Super Crew, 4.6, approx. 300,000 mi. I replaced the water pump in our F150 Super Crew 4.6L 2 1/2 mos. ago. I also changed the pulleys and the belt. This is the 3rd water pump in about a year or so. Now the bearing is going out in this water pump also. Can anyone tell me why this would keep happening?

You may have some electrolysis going on there. Get a digital voltmeter and with the engine running clip the black lead to the negative battery terminal and dip the red one in the radiator coolant. If you get a voltage reading, you may have a bad ground somewhere or other electrical issue. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hey, we use a 50/50 antifreeze, recommended for the truck. My husband is a stickler for using the right products. Don't remember what brand the water pump is. The first two came from Auto Zone. The last one came from O'Reilly's. The mechanic that put the last one on for me (the husband travels for work - contractor) said that the first two could have come from the sane stock. Maybe just a bad run. Ok. But those were purchased in Norfolk. The last one was purchased in Vancouver, WA. Kind of crazy to me that they would keep going bad. Been around cars all my life and never had his issue. Thanks!

I will tell my husband to check that. WOW. You learn something new all the time. So, electrolysis will cause the bearing to go out? I didn't know that. Thank you so much!!

Running electricity through the cooling system will have a deteriorating effect on everything in the system.
