Dashboard/Interior Question

I've purchased a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 Long bed. Just to get me through college and everything. I'd admit that is is a clunker, but not much for isurance and no payments are great during school. I'd like to fix it up a bit, though. It used to be a farm truck and the dashboard is severly damaged from the sun. Most of the top of the dash, above the instrument bezel to the front windshield is gone. Nothing is basically there. But the rest of the dash, look good. Now I've been told, I won't be able to purchase a manufactured dash like it anymore. That I would have to get a molded replacement dash cover. Since so much is missing on that top part, (%90 of it) would the replacement dash work? There are some parts on top and the sides that I can apply the adhesive too. But I figured it would not be too sturdy considering the old dash, basically is not holding it up. Don't want to go and spend $180 to get this thing and it not work. Any responses it much appreciated. Thanks If needed, can provide image.

I've never seen what your referring to but I can't picture anything working there. Also, you can't imagine how much work it would be to replace that dash pad. The entire dash would have to be removed and disassembled. Your best bet may be a whole used dash. You can always dye it for correct color. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I've been searching for an old used dash, but to no avail. Umm, a molded dash replacement cover or 'dash cap' as they'd say. It is like just the top part of the dashboard, that runs up to the windshield and sees alot of cracks. It is re-made with a certain material and it covers your old cracked dash to look new.

I've seen dash covers that are just like mats that sit on top, I have one in my truck to protect the original dash, but nothing that would replace damaged foam area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/...me;1;0;0;0;2014932;0# Here is a link to one, not like a cover as you mentioned. Like molded with a harder material, that is glued to your old dash.

That's a moulded piece of plastic that fits over the top. I would expect there would be some issues making it fit correctly due to swelling of the original foam. You may have to do a lot of trimming to make it fit right but I expect it would look a lot better than that torn up pad.

Agreed, worth a shot. I sent a inquiry for a used dashboard to several junkyards in and around my state. So maybe I can get an answer. Thanks alot, I appreciate. Just wanted a second opinion if I was to purchase that dash cap.

Just keep in mind that this is a MAJOR job to replace. The whole dash has to be removed and completely stripped.
