Brake switch replacement on 94 GMC pickup

I recently had my brake booster replaced and noticed a couple weeks later my brake lights are not working. Bulbs, fuses and switch are all good. I bought a new switch because the old one seemed very loose and I thought it could be worn out. I put the new switch on and it is still very loose. When I press the brake pedal it should engage the little metal switch that is in the switch and turn the lights on but it is not moving and I can not find out why. Am I missing a spring that is suppose to hold the switch on the pedal firmer or is the clip that holds the switch on the pedal need to be replaced? I am out of ideas. Clearly the mechanic that changed my brake booster lost a piece or something.

Have you tested for power in and out of the switch with a test light? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The switch works, I can hold the switch in my hand and turn the lights on and off. Even when the switch is attached to the pedal I can put pressure on the switch and turn the lights on. But for whatever reason when it is attached to the pedal and brake booster rod and I press the brake it does not come on.

You have to be installing it wrong. It reacts to pressure against the pushrod. Make sure the wires aren't pulling on it.

Pretty easy install. Take clip off, unclip switch from brake boost rod, unplug wiring harness, reverse process to install. That is why I'm trying to ask if there is a spring missing or if a worn out clip will prevent the switch from being held firmly to the pedal, or if the guy who installed the booster forgot to tighten something down or lost a part. I'm going to buy a new clip today, I will let you know how it goes.

If you just had a booster replaced it could have the wrong push rod. I believe this one is supposed to have a flat, squared off end that triggers the switch when the angle changes.

Stuck a pair of vice grips behind the switch....not pretty but it works and will keep me from getting pulled over.

Same truck I just posted on that had a whole laundry list of problems? The other problems were bad enough this may not have needed the booster in the first place but even so not installed properly such that brake lights don't work! Nice. Quit listening to suggestions from those people who've suggest so much that wasn't the problem. This job done by a real mechanic and left it like that? Not good, T

If it was, I would probably forget to turn the switch on when coming to a stop. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
