I have always had an issue with the key in this truck - would have to turn it VERY hard to get it to turn the truck over. Well yesterday I shut it off and then would not even attempt to turn over - had to call AAA to get it home. My questions are - how hard is it to replace this unit - do you think it is just the key turn unit? The tow truck driver yesterday said he had done it once in his life and NEVER AGAIN it was really hard. Any insight would be awesome - I need this truck back up again - Thanks in advance

That depends on what the actual problem turns out to be. The ignition switch itself is pretty easy to change but if the problem turns out to be any of the mechanical linkage that operates the switch, that would require disassembly of the steering column. The ignition switch is attached to the side of the column and is accessed from below the dash. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I'd concentrate on the switch before you start blowing up the column. If it has a tilt wheel you will likely regret taking that apart.

Yes it is a tilt wheel - I need to figure out how to get that key unit out of there - if I do get it out of there is it possible to jump across it and start the truck to confirm that is the issue - I really liked working on cars back in the 70's much better - I actually understood them then LOL

The lock cylinder comes out easy but that has nothing to do with your problem. Like I said, concentrate on the electrical switch.
