I have a problem with wife's '96 Ford Explorer it has a 4.0 eng. with over 100,000 miles on it. When she tries to switch the 4 wheel drive while moving like she usually does it blinks 5 times and does not engage. Then at a stop she tried to switch it again this time it lit up like it was engaged but did not engage. I called a Ford dealer to find out what the problem might be and they said it would cost me $40 just to look at it, I can not afford that. I have checked in the repair manual but can not find what the problem might be. I have checked all the fuses (at father-in-laws suggestion) and all are good. With all the snow we have been getting it's like driving a giant sled, and I am at a loss on how to fix it or where to look. Any suggestions
