I have a 2007 Chrysler 300 (the cheap model, not the C class or Touring) and I want to convert it to deisel to save gas and money. I have searched the internet on conversions for this vehicle but have come up short so I thought I would ask the experts. Is it possible to swap out the gas engine in this car to deisel? Would it require any other changes (i.e. trans or axle etc..)? What would be a general cost for this type of swap if it is possible? My current engine is a 2.7L I believe. Thanks!

My boss told me to tell you that you can convert it by removing the body from a Dodge Ram 3500 with a Cummings diesel and then taking your car's body and lay it on top of the frame. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Dang Tom, that guy is rolling in money. Those are some beautiful rides. Seriously, The cost of the engine and transmission along with fabrication of the suspension and body along with the electrical system and computers, would cost you more than the car is worth brand new if you were to do it right. It would probably also be a first that anyone has done something like that to that chassis platform, so there will be a whole lot of engineering involved. You will never see the retrofit paying for itself because of the cost of the retrofit. Your better off buying a vehicle that already has a diesel in it, such as a VW/Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. If you had extra money laying around and a lot of time on your hands it would be an interesting project. To do this to your daily driver is insane. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Converting to diesel isn't that hard actually. If you have a conventional distributor ignition system all you have to do is advanced the base timing to 30 degrees and run the shattiest gas you can find. Add a couple of vacuum leaks. Turning the thermostat around will really raise those combustion chamber temps, so you can take full effect of the pre-ignition to fire off the fuel before it even hits the top of the intake valves. If your engine doesn't have fuel injection, put your hand over the carburetor to shut the engine off. Don't forget to add replacing pistons to your maintenance schedule .
