genisys evo scan tool

I just picked up a genisys evo scan tool and for some reason the tool will not communicate with any thing I plug it up to.Has any body eles run into this problem with these units besides myself ?

Most of my stuff is S/O but I'll offer what help I can.
How many different cars have you tried to hook up to? Did you try to see if you could communicate using generic/global?
If you happen to have any other OTC stuff, see if the data cable is compatible and swap cables. Look at the OBD II connector and make sure there isn't any bent pins
See if you can hook up to an OBD I vehicle and communicate....
Check the back of the manual under troubleshooting communciation issues and see if any of those suggestion help
