General question about repair costs Sign In

This is my very first post so I do apologize if this is in the wrong section or if it has already been answered but...

I have a car that is in the service dept at a dealership. It needs extensive engine work. $7500 to fix. I am exploring trading it in at the same dealership. The guy quoted me a low ball number for trade in value (of course) And I asked him if we could negotiate what he was going to give me for my broken car and he said they cant go any higher because THEY have to pay $7500 (same as me) to fix.

Which raises my question.. Would the sales department be charged the same as I would to fix a vehicle at the same dealership?

Everything in me says no F'ing way but the truth is I don't know how it works.

Any insight would be great.

BTW. This is the issue with my car

Actually, this is how dealerships work. They charge their own divisions at retail. It's really just on paper because it all goes to the same place in the end.

X2 - nicely worded hammer.
The sales dept will get a bill from the service dept....
