Entry Level position question. Sign In

Hello everyone, i just have a quick question to ask anyone who has worked at a dealership or small garage. I just got a certificate from a course i took to become an entry level tech, i was just wondering what is everyones experience with drug tests. Do alot of garages drug test people? Or do they only ask for a drug test if you seem to not be doing your job well? Thanks for your time

If it is a reputable sho[p, you will probably have to pass a drug screening. Around here, they also randomly drug test everyone, and if they think probable cause, they may test someone quite often. So if you do drugs, it might be hard to get a job in a quality shop or dealership.

I guess you prefer the wild west where there are no laws and people just take whatever they want and kill whomever they choose.

Grow up! Nobody wants a stoned junky working on their car. Employers don't need that risk either.

LMAO!

All i have to say is...ITS A GOOD THING WE DO HAVE LAWS.....
Hopefully it will keep this guy from working on someones car.

I agree Sidom,he needs to worry about better things than that.

Dealerships i worked at always, always did a drug test before hiring and would sometimes do a random check, especially if they had suspicions.
Lost a good tech that way, failed drug test, they had to fire him.

That is definitely a concern but would be a topic for a different thread. It has no bearing on your original post. Drug testing is up to the employer and as far as I know there is no federal or state law forcing employers to drug test employees (we're talking private sector here with no government contracts).

You can live your life any way you choose. If some of your choices are against this countries laws. Then that is a risk you assume and are aware of the consequences.

Pretty much everyone drug test these days. If you want any type of a decent job you will have to pass a UA. The shop I'm at is pretty much the same as what everyone else mentioned. The only difference is they don't do random tests but you if you hurt yourself or damage a car or equipment then you are going to be peeing in a cup.....that day.

There are shops you can work at that don't drug test... Most of them are lower end and the pay matches. If you can make enough there to get by and are happy then I guess that's all that counts....

Bottomline is you have a choice, you can't have both and if at the end of the day you aren't happy with where you're at.....There will only be one person to blame for that.....

Don't take my responses as judging you...... I'm not...I'm in no position to judge anyone.....

I've talked with a lot of young people just getting into the biz with a ton of questions and can honestly say, This is the 1st time I've heard this one.....
