Hi folks, Got a 55 plate astra estate 16v 1.8 auto. Has a good service history, never had any problems. I had the cambelt changed at 58,00 miles (2013). New water pump an all that was included when it was done. Serviced by the same garage over last 4 years. The other day cambelt snapped ...no warning signs as far as i could tell. So after approx 16,000 miles this shoudn't have happpened right? Guy at garage said it could be oil contamination that caused it, how i don't know...he seemed reluctant to take any responsibility for it. What could cause a cambelt to snap so early? any advice appreciated... Thanks! J

Has he taken it apart yet to examine the parts? There should be some hints to the cause inside the cover. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hi Hammer Time, thanks for reply. They're going to look at it end of this week so i will know more then. Just trying to find out if it can be something other than bad workmanship or non genuine parts that would cause this to happen. Thanks J
