timing problems Sign In

changed timing chain and gears on 1997 jeep grand cherokee and in the book it says to count 15 pins between the dots and no mattter where or how many times we turn it we always get 20 same size chain and identical gears that we took offf but cant get it to do what the book says cranks but wont fire changed all the accesories including cranksensor, plugs cap rotor. im getting plenty of spark and fuel pressure but no fire any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I would forget about counting the pins. That's just a way to double check. Just align the marks and you'll be fine. I don't know why they're trying to confuse you with that pin nonsense. You didn't say if it was a 4.0 or 5.2 but they are the same anyway.
