Installing Spark Plugs Sign In

Easy trick is to use a piece of rubber hose like 3/8th or 10mm gas line to get them started back in for the tough ones which many are. Works like the utimate universal joint. Always get a secure full turn or more before putting a socket on them and don't over tighten the plugs - especially the gasketless taper seated ones. Also - best to do plugs with engine cold, and very important for aluminum or alloy heads. Also II - do them one at a time. Messing up the firing order can wreck your whole day. Also III - if you drop a plug and still use it (recheck the gap) - mark that cylinder so if a skip develops it's almost certainly that one and save you the agony of finding out which one.Smile - T

Great tip Tom. Along the same theme,an old spark plug boot , the ones from a long reach eng such as a thru the valve cover import, are good as well . To prevent the dreaded mixed up firing order, go to your local radio shack and get a wire labeling kit. It has dozens of small numbered adhesive strips that you wrap around the wire ,with a matching number on dist / coil pack. Works great on vac hoses too.
