TRANSMISSION SLIPPING Sign In

I have an '01 SILVERADO 1500 5.3L 4x4 automatic trans. on the way back from AMES, IOWA to my home in NEVADA-12 miles...the trans was hesitating off & on & about 1/2 way home the rpm's went up to 4,000 @ 50 mph. I shifted down to 3 & it picked back up & started it again. I did get home @ 50 mph in 2. I stopped along the hiway & put in over a quart of DEXRON 1V into it-no help.

from my experience with trucks/cars...when the trans starts slipping...it means it's low on fluid. when I got back to Nevada...I bought 4 quarts of PEAK ATF/DEXRON 111/MERCON & PUT 2 QTS. in the trans. the level was up about a 1/4" above the "X'S". I drove it out on the hiway & checked it out. it went fine until it tried to shift into 3 or 4-not sure & raced. i shifted to 3 & it picked up again for a bit & started racing again.
is there a "REPAIR FLUID" that i can put in the trans. to help prevent the slippage...or is the tranny on the road to "TERMINAL"???
THANX

There is no such thing as "Mechanic in a Can", no matter what they tell you at the parts store.

Hello,
Transmission is a 4L60E, chances are you have no 3rd or 4th, this is the weak point of this trans. see what happens on the 2-3 shift. Gary
